From Where Erne and Drowes Meet the Sea by P. " Gallachoir (Printed in Ballyshannon, 1961)
“Local tradition has told us that St. Patrick, on his way from the west, cursed the Duff and blessed the Drowes River. This is supported by The Tripartite Life, which states:
“‘Then he cursed the River Duff because of the refusal which the fishermen gave him. Howbeit, he blessed the River Drowes, owing to the kindness which the little boys who were fishing in it did to him. And even little boys take fish there still.’
“Next the saint, probably travelling by chariot, with his company, strikes straight across the Moy, from Bundrowes, making for the Ford of Ath Seanadh (Ford of the Slopes) on the Erne, just east of the present Ballyshannon Bridge. He went by an ancient track and bridle path that has all but disappeared today.”
