Iron man McCann enters St Eunan's Hall of Fame

Star defender of the 1950s Seamus McCann is the latest inductee into the St. Eunan's, Letterkenny, Hall of Fame.
The Derry City native nicknamed 'Iron Man McCann' was a senior championship winner with St. Eunan's in 1956 and again in 1960 and also the winner of three Division One League titles.

Seamus also won a number of underage championship including one minor in 1950 and back-to-back juvenile in 1951 and '52.

"St. Eunan's was always a proud club and I enjoyed my time playing with the club. We had a very good team at the time, but we were no better than the current team who won three in-a-row last year," Seamus told club members after receiving the award at the club's annual presentation banquet in the Mount Errigal on Friday night.

Ciaran Greene picked up the player of the year award with outgoing secretary Alma Kavanagh named club person of the year.

Club PRO Paul McGovern was master of ceremonies on the night with outgoing chairman Cathal Greene along with special guests county chairman P.J. McGowan and county assistant secretary Aodh Mairtin O'Fearraigh presenting the awards.

Sean Boyle introduced the Hall of Fame winner, while a number of awards of appreciation were also made.

Minor Board Person: Elaine Gallagher/Treacy McVeigh
Hurling Person: Eunan O'Donnell
Cultural Person: Trudy O'Donnell
Senior Player: Ciaran Greene
Appreciation Awards: Jim Clarke, Andrew McGlynn, Anne Forde, Paul/Madeline Crampsie, Celine McMenamin; Adrian Shiels, Charlie Kavanagh (on behalf of Scor Sinsir trath na gceist team), Mickey Gibbon/Sean Feeney (Scor Sinsir Ballad Group); Dwyer Rafferty (on behalf of management of Junior B team for reaching county final); Peter Devine (captain of county minor team).
Special awards of appreciation were also presented to outgoing chairman Cathal Greene and his wife Kathleen and outgoing senior manager Eamonn O'Boyle and his wife Caroline for their commitment to the club.
